I don't know if folks are still stopping by, but I'm mostly on tumblr now.

Here's a little painting I did awhile ago for an in-house art show at CN - I jumped at the chance to do a tribute to Samurai Jack. I really enjoyed making up a place that Jack might have visited on one of his adventures.

Adventure Time

Had a busy, but terrific weekend with Marshall Vandruff's superb workshop, checking out the awesome Paranorman panel and attending the super-packed Adventure Time group show at Gallery Nucleus.

Here's the painting I did for the show... my first time using Turner brand gouache (instead of the usual WN) and I'm already a believer. It handles perfectly, comes in more (even vibrant) colors, is easier on brushes and for the amount, about 1/4 the cost of Winsor Newton.

For this one I had a few different ideas (some of which were funny) but opted to stay away from a mash-up and do just an original-ish idea and monster of my own. I was also excited to try to play with some diamonds and trying to achieve lighting effects that are simple digitally, but take a bit of planning in real paint.

Speaking of painting... here's a recent one for the show that I'm co-curating with my awesome art pal, Sandra. We've put together an exceptional line-up for the show, I think.

Quails Alight

Last week I participated in a little employee art show for Bento Box. This is the painting I did for it, and to kill two birds with one stone (sorry), it was also a commission for a friend. He's a little twisted as you might've deduced from the burning baby quail.

Magnificent Tail

I used gouache for this one and have to say, I hit a point where I was absolutely enjoying the painting process. I dig the way it handles so much that I'm thinking to work in gouache over cel vinyl acrylic whenever possible.

Birthday Mouse

My pal's little boy turned 1 recently, so I did this spontaneous little painting for him. It was a quick and slightly painful exercise in gouache, which I'm not quite as familiar with as cel vinyl acrylic. Maybe I'm spoiled. Or just a big sissy.

A BIG tip of the hat to Don Shank (who does these little birthday paintings SO MUCH BETTER) for the inspiration.
