Samurai Jack Backgrounds Pt 6

Thought I'd finish out the first season DVD's with the last two episodes backgrounds. These are from episode 12, Jack and the Gangsters, and episode 13, Aku's Fairy Tales. Both great episodes, the latter is very funny with some beautiful children's book-style backgrounds. The vertical panning and character movement on one of these made it pretty tricky to delete the character to leave the background intact... hope you like!

These are by the ever-talented Scott Wills (painter) and Dan Krall (layout designer). Copyright Cartoon Network and Genndy Tartakovsky. CN if you're out there, please make a book out of these beauties!

Ep 12

Ep 13

Very cute! Some Mary Blair influence here.

This one is reminiscent of an awesome Eyvind Earle concept on Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

When will I post my work again, you ask? Very soon!

I think that Jack and the Gangsters had to be like my second favorite next to Jack vs. Ninja.

The artwork on the show has always been inspiring. The entire staff had done an incredible job.

As I mentioned, the work is inspiring. That much so, that I have taken up the challenge of completing the story myself using flash.

Thank you for posting these background paintings. If you have the time check out my site for the Flash feature.

you know, maykes me think that 2 people doing something like a painting really helps the turnout of the work, someone cant be a master at everything and these dudes are def the master of layout and color/technique. combined make masterpieces. thanks so much for sharing! (sorry i've been so wordy) but thanks again for your comments!

Thanks for commenting, Marlo! No apology necessary, I'm glad you're excited! It makes the capturing, cropping, splicing, and posting all worth it. That's a great point you make about 2 masters coming together to make masterpieces better (and faster) than they might have been able to alone. It seems to be a winning formula for cartoons with the right people. Anyway, thanks for stopping by!
