Old School Video Game Show - The Bros

Here's my contribution to the Old School Video Game tribute show, opening tonight at G1988 Venice. So excited to be part of this one! I know the Mario Bros are always well represented in these shows, but I couldn't help but pay homage to some of my favorite and two of the most beloved game characters ever.

Crazy 4 Cult 5: Office Space

Hi guys and gals!

Here's my latest painting for the Crazy 4 Cult 5 show which opens tomorrow. It goes without saying, but Office Space is a movie that speaks to anyone who's ever worked at a miserable job... yes my hand is raised, too. To this day I still find myself quoting it every so often.

Also to note, the big Crazy 4 Cult book signing will take place at G1988 in the next few days. I'm bummed that I won't be there to sign, but if you run into me on the street someplace (or at a convention) and happen to be lugging around the 300+ page tome, I'll be happy to scribble in it for you. :)

Cheers!

Is This Thing On? G1988

Welp, the cat is out of the bag now that this was posted over at funnyordie.com, so I can now show you my painting for the G1988 tribute to funny people that opens this Friday.

Gilbert Gottfried in all his glory, so to speak. Gilbert's ween is probably NSFW (depending on your place of employment) so enlarge at your own risk.

Truth Revealed - 10" x 12" cel vinyl acrylic on illustration board. $650 Framed.
I'll be attending the show, which should be packed with comedians and artsy types alike. I hope Gilbert shows up. Come by and say, "hello" or perhaps something funnier.

Here are the details:

3G Ghostbusters

Here's my 3rd entry for the 3G Show at G1988. What are giant marshmallow men good for? Making giant s'mores of course!

"S'more Friends" - 12" x 12" cel vinyl acrylic on Claybord
The show opens on Sept 3rd at G1988 LA and is chock full of fantastic art from talented folks. It's gonna be a real good time, I reckon. I can't make it, so all attendees will be expected to email me a detailed and thorough report of the evening, of course. :)

Carry on.

3G Gremlins

"Gizmo Racer" - 12" x 12" cel vinyl acrylic on Claybord
Painting #2 for the Autumn Society's 3G show at G1988. Old Gizmo is getting the Speed Racer treatment. Inspired by the climactic chase scene from Gremlins where he rocked the pink Barbie Corvette.

Crazy 4 Cult 4

My painting for this year's Crazy 4 Cult 4 at G1988 LA. I attempted something a little different with the lighting.

"There Was a Mighty Duel" - 14" x 11" cel vinyl acrylic on cradled panel

EDIT: Went back and fixed the color on my image to match the original better.

Another Dimension

Here's my painting for the Twilight Zone themed show at G1988 LA which opens in 10 days.

I had several different ideas for this show and had a hard time narrowing them down... ultimately I went with The Invaders episode because I love the design of the "little" spacemen so much. I also love the reveal at the end.

"Making an Entrance" - 8" x 8" cel vinyl acrylic on cradled panel.

Don't forget to hit up the show next Thurs! I'll be there in spirit only, I'm afraid, so the part of "me" will be played by this painting.

More He-Man

Back from LA and had a fantastic time. Got to visit/meet so many cool people and see great art. A big thank you to all! Perfect 74 degree sunny weather to boot. What more can you ask for? We packed so much into a short period but instead of feeling worn down, I'm both energized and inspired.

Enough babbling, here are the other two He-Man show pieces.

Trapjaw's Revenge - 11" x 14" cel vinyl acrylic on illustration board.

Naughty Neck - 11" x 14" cel vinyl acrylic on illustration board.

Detail

For the Trapjaw / Sorceress piece I did a little lighting study to get the shadows right... simply a shoe box and a couple pieces of cardboard taped down, then lit from the front.

Lately I've been doing all my color studies digitally. Quick and dirty, like this.
Photoshop

The opening at G1988 did not disappoint. Several hundred people came through the gallery, including media and even a few celebs and from what I could tell, a good time was had by all. Jensen and his team did a terrific job.

A few hastily taken shots.

He-Man Teaser

I can now share one of the three pieces I did recently for the upcoming He-Man show at G1988 LA in January (opens the 8th... I'll be attending with family in-tow). I was so excited to get the invite to this show that as soon as I stopped jumping up and down I sketched out all my pieces (and then some) in about 30 seconds. Granted, they've improved a little since, but the ideas are still the same.

Mer Swamp - 11" x 14" cel vinyl acrylic on illustration board.

For the other two, well, you'll just have to wait! I promise it'll be worth it or your money back.

Oh, and G1988 is working with Mattel to transform the gallery into Castle Greyskull. As if you needed another reason to go. It's gonna be epic I tell ya.

G1988 Group Show - Beyond the Page

Guess what? My painting made it onto the flyer for the upcoming G1988 SF group show "Beyond the Page: re-illustrating our favorite children's books".

Since the cat's out of the bag, here's the whole painting. I'll have another in the show, but you'll have to wait...

On The Way To Grandmother's House - 10" x 10" cel vinyl acrylic on bristol.

The show runs May 1st - 23rd.
Opening reception is Friday, May 1st from 7 - 10pm. I'll be there with a slew of talented folks, so come by and say howdy!
