Here's more of the good stuff from Samurai Jack. These are from episode 31, Jack in Egypt. Painted by Scott Wills, Jenny Gase-Baker, and Ellen Suh.

BTW, these are screencaps from the DVDs (that you should all own!). I'm not affiliated with the show, just a big fan of the artists involved and their amazing work.

Samurai Jack Backgrounds Pt 10
Here are some more treats from Samurai Jack. I love this show, especially the background paintings. I'm continuing to post these because it doesn't look likely that Cartoon Network will ever make a book about the show (they fear it won't sell) and these babies deserve more attention! These were painted by the amazing Scott Wills and Ellen Suh from Episode 30, Jack and the Zombies. Great mood created in this batch. The colors, the mist and the sponging on top of the wash on the moon is brilliant.

Panda Qee
The missus likes pandas, so I'm painting this 9" Qee for her. It's mostly done. I'm debating on adding a subtle flower pattern on the ears.

Birfday Dragon
My niece Alyssa just had her 4 year birthday, so in keeping with tradition I wanted to paint something for her. We recently watched home video of her telling her little sister a completely made up bedtime story, in which a sheep rode on the back of a pink dragon. You see, the sheep's legs were "too too short" for it to run, so the nice dragon helped it out. Painting solved! Here's the result.
Please be aware the colors are off, because once again I mixed in some radiant paint. I did my best to tweak in Photoshop, but the subtle highlight on the dragon's skin doesn't show. What can ya do. Maybe you can see it in the photo a little better. Reality lies somewhere in between the two (closer to the scan).
6" x 9" cel vinyl on watercolor paper.
The photo.

Sushi-Me!
Normally I don't post here about workstuffs, but we finished a fun game awhile back in which I got to design some characters, backgrounds, logo, color scheme, screens, wallpapers, etc. My talented coworkers and pals Devi and Ian shared the workload and did characters, animation, UI, wallpapers, a sh!t ton of assets and more. Boss-man, Matt kept us in line and did animation and character designs and a lot more. It was a lot of work, but a fun project.
Anyway, here are my fish characters that made the cut.
And one of my wallpapers (you can download them from the site).
The game has now launched at plexipixel.com/games so if you've got a moment, give it a whirl! It picks up speed pretty quick, so bring your "A" game.

Blog Anniversary
It's officially been a year since I started this wee blog on blogger. Over the course of 42 posts, we've shared laughter and tears. All 5 of us. I don't have a painting for you today, because I've been gathering strength for this new year (aka: part busy part lazy). Rest assured, I will have a new one shortly. Instead, here are a couple of doodles from the trusty little sketchbook.
A couple trees I saw while driving. As I drew them, I thought Eyvind Earles's style was perfectly suited to portray their shape. I hadn't looked at his stuff in a long while, but man, it sticks with you. Well, me at least.
This is a strange fellow from my morning bus commute one day. He was truly odd looking, and I made him look stranger (though not much!). I couldn't draw him during the bus ride, because he would've seen me, so I just memorized his face and then drew him later.
It's gonna be an exciting year. Got some things in the pipeline and will share them in due time. Happy New Year all!
